Humility Quotes Showing of Did you know that, on average, each of us speaks about twenty-five thousand words daily? A lot of language is flowing out of our mouths every day and having an impact on those around us.

How much of it reflects pride, rather than a gospel-motivated humility? Mahaney, Humility: True Greatness. They're cross-centered words. They're words rooted in and derived from Scripture, words that identify the active presence of God, and words that communicate the evidences of grace that you observe in others. They're words that flow from a humble heart. What a powerful death! The cross ransoms, the cross liberates, the cross transforms! Mahaney, Humildade Verdadeira Grandeza. A proud man cannot laugh because he must watch his dignity; he cannot give himself over to the rocking and rolling of his belly.

But a poor and happy man laughs heartily because he gives no serious attention to his ego. It means turning upside down our entrenched, worldly ideas on the definition of greatness. The proud person seeks to glorify himself and not God, thereby attempting in effect to deprive God of something only He is worthy to receive. No wonder God opposes pride. No wonder He hates pride. Let that truth sink into your thinking.

Humility Quotes

I face something of a dilemma here that I believe C. Mahaney might appreciate. He has written a wonderful book in which he seeks to share insight on the practice of true humility and the conquest of pride. However, as he and all authors know, a glowing book review is a great temptation to pride for any author. Therein lies the dilemma. In order to avoid this conundrum, and to encourage humility in the author, it may be best to begin by pointing out what I believe to be the major flaw in the book… I wish it were longer. Mahaney admits in the introduction to his book that he is not qualified to speak as an authority on humility.

CJ Mahaney’s Humility: True Greatness

The book is divided into three sections. Part one deals with the battle of humility versus pride, part two with our Savior and the secret of true greatness and part three with the practice of true humility. In the first part, Mahaney defines humility and shows how true humility is nothing less than a battle against the pride that lives deep within every heart. This is precisely why true greatness can only be achieved by followers of Jesus Christ, for only they have had their eyes opened by the Holy Spirit to see the depth of their own depravity and the overwhelming holiness of God. Mahaney teaches, rightly I believe, that God hates the sin of pride above all other sin. This is a sin that plagues all humans, though it manifests itself in different ways.
