Imidazole is a planar 5-membered ring. It is a highly polar, highly water soluble amphoteric compound. Imidazole is often used to elute tagged proteins bound to metal ions attached to the surface of beads in a chromatography column by displacing the His-tag from the metal ion and freeing the His-tagged proteins. Recrystallized Imidazole from GoldBio is specially purified Imidazole specifically designed for Histidine tagged protein purification. The final Imidazole product is tested in our labs for elution of tagged protein from Ni columns.

Potential Health Effects Eye: Contact with eyes may cause severe irritation, and possible eye burns. Skin: Exposure may cause irritation and possible burns. May be absorbed through the skin. The severity of injury depends on the concentration of the solution and the duration of exposure. Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed. Causes digestive tract irritation with possible burns.
Inhalation: Causes respiratory tract irritation with possible burns. Chronic: Laboratory experiments have resulted in mutagenic effects. May cause adverse reproductive effects. Animal evidence suggests that fetotoxicity and teratogenicity may be observed at doses that also cause harmful effects in the mothers. Get medical aid immediately. Skin: In case of contact, immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Wash clothing before reuse. Ingestion: If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. If victim is fully conscious, give a cupful of water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Inhalation: If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid. Dusts at sufficient concentrations can form explosive mixtures with air. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Extinguishing Media: Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or appropriate foam.
Clean up spills immediately, observing precautions in the Protective Equipment section. Avoid generating dusty conditions. Provide ventilation. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse.
Minimize dust generation and accumulation. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Keep container tightly closed. Do not breathe dust. Use only with adequate ventilation. Storage: Store in a tightly closed container. Keep from contact with oxidizing materials. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Use adequate ventilation to keep airborne concentrations low. Skin: Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin exposure.
Clothing: Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure. Vapor Pressure: 0. Explosion Limits, upper: Not available. Decomposition Temperature: Not available. Solubility in water: Soluble. Conditions to Avoid: Dust generation, excess heat. Incompatibilities with Other Materials: Strong oxidizing agents.
Hazardous Decomposition Products: Nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide. Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur. R 34 Causes burns. Safety Phrases: S 26 In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. S 45 In case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately show the label where possible.
