Since all the stories don't share the same date in time of writing, some of them can be perceived as immature, while the most recent ones are more refined, and well written; the prefaces of the author before each story help to understand both the background of the narration itself and the historical context in which he was living at that time.
An experimental anthology. Highly recommended if, as a reader, you don't have a favourite genre. On the other hand, if you want to read some more of Geralt's stories, you could be disappointed. Some are better, like 'Maladie', some are worse, but all of them keep a pretty good level. The main character of The Witcher alternative translation: The Hexer is Geralt, a mutant assassin who has been trained since childhood to hunt down and destroy monsters. At the same time cynical and noble, Geralt has been compared to Raymond Chandler's signature character Philip Marlowe. The world in which these adventures take place is heavily influenced by Slavic mythology.
