Henri Mouhot May 15, — November 10, was a French naturalist and explorer of the midth century. He died near Naphan , Laos. He is remembered mostly in connection to Angkor. Mouhot's tomb is located just outside of Ban Phanom , to the east of Luang Prabang.

Henri Mouhot was an intrepid explorer and one of the first French adventurers and naturalists to visit Laos. He was sponsored by the Royal Geographical Society and the Zoological Society of London after failing to get support from the French government. Tragically he died of malaria in Luang Prabang in aged only His grave was then smothered by the jungle and was only rediscovered in just outside Luang Prabang on the banks of the Nam Khan River.
