Maybe it's a complete fabrication. Who knows. People are looking for answers and we all relate to the questions, but the answers were weird.

They were puzzles more than answers. And frankly, I don't believe in some of the answers they gave. However, whatever answers they received gave them strength enough to get through the Holocaust and for that I respect what was said. I repeatedly questioned the book's authenticity. The absence of breathtaking metaphors and humour was very suspicious and underwhelming but maybe I'm spoiled by the gnostic gospels and reading about quirky mystical experiences James Broughton and Hermy, Allen Ginsberg and Blake. As for the humour part, I always keep in mind Marie-Louis I didn't particularly care for the answers the angels spoke in kitschy platitudes but I liked the questions as they reveal the ways of neurotic consciousness.

As for the humour part, I always keep in mind Marie-Louise von Franz's intimation of the unconscious being a great jester. Oh well. And yet the book has its merit, albeit an odd one. Her father was an officer in the Hungarian army, her mother was Austrian. She was a talented swimmer and in the late twenties, became national backstroke champion. She also made the acquaintance of Lili Strausz, a professor of calisthenics who was also a massage therapist. Soon Gitta resumed working in graphic art and joined Hanna in the atelier which Hanna ran with her husband Joseph Kreutzer. Once anti-Semitism gained political power in Budapest, the aristocratic Gitta took over the commercial management of the atelier from Hanna and Joseph, who were Jewish just like Lili.
