With regard to the possible approaches of national legislation to its ongoing process of refinement, the Global Compact for safe, orderly and regular migration  raises a number of questions:. As is well known, when the Global Compact agreement was adopted on 10 December , during an ad hoc intergovernmental conference held in Marrakech under the auspices of the United Nations, in which government representatives from all over the world took part, there was no representative of the Italian Republic and Italy chose not to be a signatory to the Compact. This happened, not only because of the delicate nature of the topics covered in the text to be approved, but also because those topics were particularly sensitive as an issue for the current government or at least a part of it and the socio-political context of the country. It was in fact the Prime Minister who opted for this solution. Parliament, for its part, actually supported this solution.
