Verified Purchase. Great old school RPG book! I've really have mixed feelings about this tribebook. Sometimes great, other times plummeting to very low standards. Note that this supplement is for the first edition, although it's not that hard to adapt to the revised edition. Starting with a very good comic titled "The wounds of the world", story by the author Daniel Greenberg and art by Dan Smith, you clasp your hands preparing yourself for a treat. The Children of Gaia are an iconic tribe because of their particular point of view of following non-violence whenever possible; also believing that is possible to redeem anyone, even Vampires!
These ideas are very well explored integrating them with the concept of unity, the devotion to mother Gaia, the absolute loathing of tradition but respecting the law of the litany In this book you will also find useful gifts like "grandmother's touch" like mother's touch but you can also heal yourself ; the hilarious "Good Faith" if you negotiate in bad faith you get flatulent or the mighty "Trust of Gaia" people trust you If you abuse this gift Gaia will be upset.
The extra rites presented here are also completely adequate for this tribe, including among others one to comfort Garou in Harano, one to part the veil permitting lovers and allies to not be scared by the Garou, or the "End of the world rite" to measure the consequence of an action in avoiding or rushing the apocalypse. Both the templates with generated characters as the"Hall of Fame" are very good. You'll get glimpses of the nobleGron that managed to stop the Impergium, the story of Siduri Sabitu which convinced Gilgamesh that the pleasures of life are much greater than the power of death or the quest of Sarah Rasheeda Ben-Fasil hunting for Malkav in Jerusalem.
Those are all impressive points that would lead to one of the best sourcebooks for Werewolf. But in the history section it gets so absurd that it is really annoying.
I know that those sections are almost always the point of view of the speaker, but usually they have a lot of "canonical" data. In this tribebook you get 3 or 4 non-sense per page in the "Rainbow trail" chapter. I will only mention a few: - Throughout this section the CoG are the good innovative ones, the Wyrm are the tradition bound that pick a good idea and surround it by rotes, rules, canon, etc, with the objective of corrupting it Wyrm is change! Not tradition! It's exactly the opposite, its chaos.
Just as an example, from a philosophy the Weaver would create a religion, the Wyrm could corrupt some individuals making them wage a war or persecution, but the institution in itself wouldn't had been created or ruled by the Wyrm! Their guiding principles are democracy, devotion to the mother, helping your brother And not a nice one for that matter.
The CoG who loves peace, forgiveness, non-aggression, promoted the Jihad and the crusades leading to centuries of warfare, uncountable thousands of Dead, and they brag about it??? But the author forgot those last parts. So, this book has lots of positive aspects, but others quite silly indeed.
I assume that the elder that was giving the history lesson to the pups was simply uninformed or just plain stupid. Doing that, I enjoyed a lot the rest of the book. Do you think the Children are misfits to Garou society?
Not after this book. With a rich discussion of the history of the tribe, with nice gifts and excellent examples of Child characters, especially an Ahroun one, this is the Child tribebook to get. If you are thinking of running a Child, after reading this tribebook, you will want to. I am collecting the series. Excellent condition but have not read yet. Go to Amazon. Back to top.
