I'm Desi Serna. Years ago, I was a basic guitar player like you, nothing fancy. Then there I was one Saturday afternoon, in a music store, watching a pro guitarist play. He was playing scales all over the neck of the guitar, and sounding absolutely amazing…. I began to pick up on familiar patterns in the music. Sure, guitar theory is not difficult to come by, but Desi Serna lays out the theory in an easy-to-understand form.
I loved the step-by-step explanation of the CAGED system and how it all intertwines with scales, arpeggios, even modes. It's like a door to a whole new musical world has opened up to me. I feel like I finally "understand" the guitar. Sure, perhaps that also has to do with my motivation to move beyond the "le I gained more from this book than years of noodling around. Sure, perhaps that also has to do with my motivation to move beyond the "learning-tabs-of-my-favorite-songs" phase and getting into a new phase where I want to learn theory and work on my theoretical knowledge.
Still, I credit the author with giving me a new sense of love for the guitar and helping inspire me to keep going, because I've gotten so much better, even after just three chapters.
